The Guide… reviewed

I saw Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy last night.

All the bits and pieces were there – story, acting, special effects all
were ok. Not fantastic, but decent. I didn’t mind the story changes at
all, they were fully expected. After all it wouldn’t be Douglas Adams
if it were an exact reproduction of a previous version. The scene with
Arthur and Slartibartfast in Magrathea was by far the best in the movie
and exactly the way I pictured it from the book. The visuals were
stunning.

Even with all of the elements there it still felt like something was
missing… humor! or humour if you prefer.  The books were laugh
out loud hysterical. The movie had its moments, but ultimately it
didn’t bring as many laughs as the books.

I’m willing to give it another chance when the DVD comes out. They
could do great things with the extended features and more guide entries
on the DVD.
