excellent news

I didn’t go to MMS2007 this year because I’m not actually working as a Windows sysadmin. I’m not actually working as anything anymore, and that’s kinda nice. That doesn’t mean I don’t care about the wonderful world of system administration though. Far from it. They just announced that PowerShell will be shipping as part of the next version of Windows Server. This is most excellent news. Powershell is one of the most exciting things MSFT has done in the area of system administration in a long time. In my experience the 3 most important tools for any sysadmin are:

  1. patch management tools
  2. interactive shell
  3. scripting language

Powershell covers two of these, and does a decent job of it too.

thought of the day

It is impossible to watch The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross without getting warm fuzzies inside. There are no mistakes, only happy little accidents.

the last one

the show with zefrank

Amazing, inspiring, insightful, hilarious and various other adjectives that I can’t think of right now. Thanks for the year ze.

the only reasonable thing to do

Oh sleep! Why have you forsaken me so? This was the only reasonable thing to do at 4am when insomnia has you in her deathly grip.

rain, etc

It’s been raining for two straight days here in Lubbock. This is what I look like after that much rain.

This west Texas boy just isn’t used to water falling from the sky in such amounts. In other news FedEx says that my laptop is in Anchorage, Alaska. If anyone from FedEx is reading this can you give it a blanket or something? I’m afraid it might get cold, and I want it to be in a good mood when it gets here on Wednesday.

spendin money

I’m fairly certain that Apple will be announcing the release of Leopard and probably all new products within the next couple of weeks. Why am I sure of this? Because I just placed my order for a new MacBook. I’ve been contemplating this purchase for a while, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it really sucks not having a laptop. I’ve been traveling the last two weekends, and not having access is very unsettling. Sure, I can check mail on my phone. It works ok, but it’s just not the same. I found myself in a number of places with free wifi, but no computer to take advantage of said wifi. It does feel a bit odd to be spending a chunk of money without having a steady source of income at the moment, but I’ll get over it.

so, that was quick

I never really got the hang of February. It seems like we just started the year and now it’s already March. Just for reference, here’s the straight dope on why there’s only 28 days in this particular month. It’s odd to think that rulers used to rearrange and modify the calendar to suit their needs, but I guess we still do this to a certain degree with the upcoming changes to daylight savings. I shall now distract you by posting a quick sketch I did earlier this evening while watching the Mavericks win yet another basketball game.

The sketch has absolutely nothing to do with what I wrote above. I have now been jobless for one whole month.
